How do I wash my copper infused silk?
This is the best way to care for our silk (and, really, most silk products):
- Use a silk-safe detergent*
- Wash in cold water, preferably washing by hand but its perfectly fine to use the delicates cycle on a washing machine too
- Line dry
- Use a cool iron, if desired
*A silk-safe detergent is pH-neutral, unlike most traditional detergents. We trust and sell Soak detergent, suitable for silk, wool, baby clothes, and more.
Is the silk machine washable?
While we recommend handwashing, you can absolutely use a washing machine instead.
To help the product last longer, we recommend using a laundry bag and using the delicate cycle on your machine. Always use cold water and a silk-safe detergent. Line dry the product. To add that lustrous and crisp feeling, quickly cool iron the pillowcase and then enjoy!
Does copper infused fabric actually work?
Short answer: Yes. A copper infused pillowcase works, but with some nuances worth understanding. See more detail here.
Multiple peer-reviewed, double-blind clinical trials published in dermatology journals confirm that copper-infused pillowcases can significantly reduce facial wrinkles and fine lines. Separately, copper-infused fabrics have been proven to improve skin elasticity and copper's antimicrobial properties are well-established in medical literature.
The method of copper infusion matters though, as does confirming that the copper is there. We use independent European laboratories to test our fabrics and confirm copper composition. On top of that, we use these products ourselves and love the outcomes!
Of course, every person is different. Do not use these products if you have a known copper allergy (these types of allergies are rare). For more information and summaries of scientific studies on copper, see our section on The Science.
What is momme? (And how do you pronounce it?)
Momme (pronounced either “moe-mie” or “moe-may”) is the unit of weight used to measure silk quality and density. A higher momme indicates a more durable, luxurious fabric with a richer feel. Think of it like thread count for cotton, only more refined.
How long will these products last?
If you follow recommended care guidelines, the products can last for years while maintaining their softness and benefits. Over time, you may notice natural wear, as you would with any pillowcase.
